BMW has announced that it will offer its latest entry-level race car, the M2 Racing, starting at €98,000 (about $111,421). Derived from the 2 Series G Coupe, this track-ready vehicle aims to offer uncompromising performance and driving pleasure at an affordable price. Sales of the M2 Racing, which is scheduled to hit the track in 2026, will begin in June 2025.

At the heart of the M2 Racing is a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 313 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The only available transmission is a seven-speed automatic transmission from ZF with BMW M Motorsport software. This setup enables the car to reach speeds of over 168 miles per hour, making racing exciting.

The car’s design emphasizes track performance, featuring a special cooling system, BMW M compound brakes, and a mechanical differential lock with adjustable front and rear anti-roll bars. KW shock absorbers, LED headlights, a front splitter, a lightweight roof, and a U300 Alpine White III finish enhance the exterior features. These elements enable the M2 Racing to handle with precision on the track.

The M2 Racing features a DMSB-certified welded safety cage that meets the latest FIA regulations, a Sabelt GT-AM safety seat, and a fire extinguisher. Air conditioning, BMW M Motorsport-specific drive modes and an adjustable pit speed limiter provide drivers with modern comfort and control. These features ensure safety and practicality, along with the excitement of racing.

Additional options include a rear wing, Endless Endurance brake pads, an air jack system, a passenger seat package and M Motorsport decals, allowing teams to customize the car to their needs. “The car is affordable but offers racing teams and drivers uncompromising performance, durability and pure driving pleasure,” said BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel. The close relationship with the production car ensures low operating costs, which is a major advantage for the teams.

Development of the M2 Racing, which began in November 2023, involved three prototypes for powertrain, car dynamics and endurance testing, with one development car completing 18,641 miles. This rigorous testing ensures the car’s reliability and track readiness. The M2 Racing offers racing enthusiasts and budget-conscious teams an attractive entry into BMW’s motorsport heritage.
