The Dodge Charger EV has been recalled due to a major issue. The issue is related to the vehicle not being loud enough. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) regulations, a slow-moving Electric Vehicle must make a certain sound so that pedestrians can detect it. Approximately 8,390 Dodge Charger EV vehicles, manufactured in the 2024 and 2025 model years and before March 2025, are affected by this recall.
The problem with the vehicle is not with the 'Fratzonic exhaust' system, which produces a loud noise. The real problem comes when the vehicle is moving slowly and is much quieter than necessary. This silence can pose a danger to pedestrians. In fact, some of the vehicles did not have the correct software installed in the amplifier.
Because of this lack of software, the vehicle is unable to produce the necessary EV sounds outside. If the car doesn’t make a sound, it is harder for pedestrians and other drivers to spot it, which can increase the risk of a crash.

Stellantis began investigating the issue on April 17. Engineers and suppliers quickly determined the cause and found a solution. It’s a simple fix. The amplifier does not need to be replaced; rather, new software is installed. Dealers will perform this work at no charge. Vehicles manufactured after March 18, 2025, are not affected by the recall as they already have the fixed software.

Customers will be sent letters about the recall on July 10. Dealers will begin receiving notifications starting June 19. Customers can contact Dodge or Stellantis with questions by referring to recall 44C or NHTSA recall identifier 25V389. The recall shows how important the role of software has become in modern vehicles, even for pedestrian safety.
