Ford had initially indicated a price “around $325,000” for the Mustang GTD, while the official price reported on the vehicle’s label is $318,760, slightly more moderate.

However, it is necessary to consider the additional mandatory expenses: the destination charge of $5,500 and the gas guzzler tax of $3,700 (the latter applied due to the high consumption of the supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine, which records 10 mpg in the city, 17 on the highway and 12 on the combined cycle). The actual starting price, therefore, reaches $327,960.

From a technical standpoint, the Mustang GTD is equipped with a V8 5.2L Supercharged gasoline engine, eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, rear-wheel drive, maximum power of 815 horsepower and 664 lb-ft of torque. The 0-60 mph time is 3.5 seconds, while the top speed is 202 mph.

Owner Kelly Aiken, who publicly shared the tag for his example, selected options such as an exposed carbon roof ($10,000) and red brake calipers ($1,500), bringing the total price to $339,460. The GTD range also includes the Carbon Series ($428,000) and Spirit of America ($1,000 more), both of which come with the Performance package, which includes magnesium wheels, a drag-reducing rear spoiler, and advanced lower aerodynamics.

The cost of that package on base GTD models has not yet been disclosed. The Mustang GTD is assembled at the Multimatic assembly plant in Ontario, Canada, a move that could benefit the vehicle’s Canadian-American heritage.

Customers were able to configure their GTD through an online tool that offered a wide range of color options, including an extended color palette lockout, which ensures that the color chosen by the customer is exclusive.

There are also six predefined colors, including Polymimetic Alloy, inspired by the T-1000 from the Terminator film series. Ford specifies that the car must be equipped with the Performance package to achieve maximum performance at the Nürburgring.

The Mustang GTD represents the pinnacle of Ford’s model range, designed to deliver extreme performance. The car has set impressive times at the Nürburgring, even beating the Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and puts the Corvette ZR1 in the face of fiercer competition than ever before.

Ultimately, with its technical innovations and price positioning, the Mustang GTD redefines the concept of a “pony car,” pushing the boundaries of engineering and luxury with a strong focus on the track.
