Jeep is preparing for the official launch of the new Compass next week. However, leaked images online have already revealed its appearance. The model, which shares a platform with several Stellantis vehicles, will be available in mild hybrid, plug-in hybrid and all-electric variants in Europe. The design and technology of the new Compass are set to become a symbol of modern off-road style.

The electric and hybrid versions of the new Compass have very few visual differences. The only clue to identify the all-electric model is a small 'E' badge on the tailgate. The green color of the vehicle clearly indicates that it is the electric variant. This unified design not only reinforces Jeep's brand identity, but also gives the different powertrains a uniform style.

For the North American market, production of the new Compass was scheduled to begin in Canada in 2026, but this plan has been temporarily suspended due to tariff issues. For Europe, the Compass will be built at the Melfi factory in Italy. However, these vehicles are unlikely to be exported to the United States, as high import taxes will be a challenge for Jeep.

Compared to the current Compass, the new model has a more angular and boxy look. This design emphasizes the rugged off-road style. However, the vehicle, which is based on the STLA medium platform, shares its underpinnings with on-road crossovers such as the Peugeot 3008, 5008 and Opel Grandland. As such, off-road capabilities may be limited, but it will offer great comfort and technology for everyday use.

The fully electric Compass borrows motors and batteries from Peugeot models. A 321-horsepower all-wheel drive and a 231-horsepower front-wheel drive are likely to be available. Battery options include 73 kWh and 98 kWh. The front-wheel drive variant with the larger battery is expected to have a WLTP range of 434 miles (700 km), making it one of the longest-range electric crossovers in Europe.

A plug-in hybrid variant will combine a 1.6-liter turbocharged engine and an electric motor to produce 195 horsepower. A 54-mile (87 km) electric range is expected in the front-wheel drive configuration. While Jeep may develop an all-wheel drive option, that is unlikely. This powertrain makes the Compass a fuel-efficient and environmentally friendly option.

In Europe, the Compass will remain Jeep’s mainstream model, but its future in the US is uncertain. The current Compass was built in Mexico, but production was halted due to a 25% import duty. Canadian and Italian-made models will face similar hurdles. We expect to get more information about the Jeep Compass's marketing strategy when it is officially revealed next week.
