In the last few months, the news of the merger of Stalantis and Renault in the automotive world has created a lot of stir? Stelantis, which is the fourth largest car manufacturer in the world today, made from Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA group union in 2021. On the other hand, the famous French Renault company, which is known for its old alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi, got stuck in these rumors. I feel that these things started flying in the air and when Stalantis had to face some money. But to be very clear, both the companies rejected these reports outright. There is no merger, it has become a matter of talk!

To tell the truth, in October last year, the then boss of Stalantis, Carlos Tavares, called these rumors nonsense. In May 2025, at the Future of the Car Summit of the Financial Times in London, John Elkann, Chairman of Stelantis, sat with Renault CEO Luca de Meo and made it clear that we are not talking about any merger. Luka also said the same raga that all these are rumors and nothing. Now hearing such a clear statement, it seems that both companies are following their way and no intention of merging.

But where did these rumors come from? In fact, in 2024, the sales of Stalantis fell 15 per cent, which made the company a little difficult. On the other hand, when Renault increased 3.5 percent profit in 2023, analysts thought that if both of them meet, they would make a big bang in the market! The French government, which owns 15 per cent in Renault and 6.1 per cent in Stalantis, may have also thought about it. But repeatedly the two companies said that no brother, there is no such plan. I am surprised to see how much people believe in such rumors!

Now talk about Stalantis and Raynolt, both have their own mess. Stelantis has 14 brands such as Jeep Fiat Chrysler Puzo, etc. But some brands such as Chrysler have become completely loose. The company is going to bring a new CEO in early 2025 and may say goodbye to some brands. Renault also has no less drama. He is engaged in fixing his alliance with Nissan and Mitsubishi which has been falter for years. Recently, Renault described the terms of Honda-Nissan merger as useless. That is, both companies are working hard on their respective paths.

Then why is it not merging? The direct answer is that both have their own priorities. Stelantis is engaged in brightening its brands and improving the condition of money as John Elkain said very loudly at the Paris car show. Renault is also engaged in giving a new shape to his relationship with Nissan and increasing its strength. Both have to face the growing challenge of electric vehicles and Chinese car companies. The merger talk shows the upheaval in the automotive world, but both are still on their way.

In conclusion, the merger of Stalantis and Ranolt is just a rumor which has been rejected by both of them repeatedly. Stalantis is busy fixing its weaknesses and repairing brands, while Renault is focusing on its alliance and growth. These rumors show the uncertainty of the automotive market but both companies are ready to fight on their own. It would be fun to see further how these two stalwarts make their way and settled in the global market.
