Today we will talk about BMW's upcoming electric cars, the 2027 BMW i3 and iM3, some of whose information has been leaked. These cars are going to be very special for BMW.

BMW has launched the all-new BMW 3 Series in India. It will have petrol and plug-in hybrid models that will run on an updated version of the existing CLAR platform. But there will also be a separate electric model, called the i3, and it will be built on a special EV platform called the Neue Klasse.

There will also be high-performance variants of both the i3 and the regular 3 Series, which will make up the M division. The petrol model will be called the M3. But the electric model will get a new name, that will be iM3. All this information has been obtained from a leak that was posted on the Bimmerpost forum.

According to the leaked information, the production of the i3 will start in July 2026, while for the US it will start in November 2026. Production of the iM3 will begin in March 2027. Initially, both cars will be manufactured at BMW's Munich, Germany plant. Production of the i3 will also begin a year later at the San Luis Potosí, Mexico plant. Production at both plants is expected to last until the end of 2034.

There will be several variants of i3: 20, 40, 50, and M60. All variants except the 20 will come with all-wheel drive. The iM3 will initially come in only one trim. The i3 comes with the iconic Glow illuminated kidney grille and multifunction seats that were previously only available on the 5 Series and above cars. The 19-inch wheels will be standard.

The iM3 will have 20-inch wheels as standard. It will also feature carbon-ceramic brakes and new natural-fibre components. These flax-based materials will replace carbon fiber, making the car lighter and better for the environment. The iM3 is expected to get around 700 horsepower, which will come from the quad-motor setup.

The Neue Klasse platform replaces BMW's electrical and chassis control systems. In this, the number of control units has been reduced, which has reduced the wiring of about 2,000 feet. This reduces the weight of the car and increases its efficiency. BMW has combined the drivetrain and chassis controls into a single system, called the Heart of Joy.

The Neue Klasse electric cars will have a new user interface. It will have a head-up display at the bottom of the windshield instead of the traditional gauge. An optional 3D augmented reality layer can display navigation and driving information like arrow marks on the road.
