The Lada Azimut is a new crossover introduced by the Russian car company Avtovaz. This is Lada's first new crossover in nearly thirty years, which means the last such vehicle came when the word 'crossover' wasn't so common. Although it will hardly have a direct collision with anyone, its measurements put it in the same segment as the Toyota Corolla Cross.

Lada claims that they have created this model completely by themselves, and they call it "technologically independent." He also said that "we fully ensured the technological sovereignty of both the design of the car and its production."

It's not a big deal to emphasize this, especially since he has thanked Russian President Putin for "his support and his personal control over the transformation of the country's automotive industry." Lada says that there are only 996 new or improved parts in this Azimut, while a normal car has more than 30,000 parts.

Its styling is very similar to the Dacia, and it's no surprise that Renault's Dacia and Lada used to work together before the sanctions. Azimut is based on the same platform on which Vesta was made, which came into production in 2015. That platform also originally came from Renault. This styling looks similar to other square Euro crossovers, and it will fit any badge on it. The interiors also look good in the renders.

The brand-new infotainment system of this crossover is made by the Russian state-owned bank Sber. It may seem a little strange that a bank created an infotainment system, but it has some fun features. For example, you can pay for your fuel from the head unit. Lada also promises Sber's other partner services, such as the SberMobile data service and the ability to control your vehicle through the Sber app.

When the Azimut goes on sale next year, it will have two engine options: A 1.6 -liter that will give 120 horsepower and a 1.8 -liter that will give 132 hp. Lada did not say whether these are gas or diesel, but the displacements match Lada's existing gas fours. A six-speed manual and a CVT will also be available, and later a 150-horsepower turbocharged engine will also join the lineup with a torque converter automatic.

Lada says that Azimut will offer the best price-to-quality ratio in its segment in Russia. With new car sales in Russia mostly limited to Avtovaz models and some low-cost Chinese brands, it seems that this will remain true. Lada has the largest share of its home market, with about a third of sales each year coming from Lada.
