The theft took place at the Victory Ottawa dealership on the late night of Sunday, June 15. The stolen Hellcat was a 2023 Challenger SRT Hellcat Jailbreak model and had driven just 2,656 miles (4,274 km). It was blue and still had the yellow splitter guards. It is not yet known how the thieves got hold of the keys to the car.
An officer with the Wellsville, KS Police Department spotted the stolen car and immediately began a chase. Several police teams were on the lookout for the thieves. The police also used a tire deflation device to stop the car, but even that did not stop the thieves. Finally, Wellsville Police abandoned the chase on I-435 toward Kansas City, Missouri.
