Ferrari is expected to launch its first series-production EV this year. However, the company has postponed its second electric car. The car was originally scheduled to arrive in 2026. Now Ferrari has extended its plans until at least 2028.

Many might not be happy with this news. This is because many Ferrari fans like their sports cars to be fast, emotional and characterful.

The company has attributed this delay to the decreasing demand for expensive luxury EVs. Two sources with knowledge of Ferrari's plans told Reuters that demand for the high-performance luxury EV is very low. Therefore, Prancing Horse will delay its second electric sports car. Ferrari seems to be very cautious about its plans. Global demand for premium EVs has declined, forcing models like the Audi Q8 e-tron to be discontinued.

Ferrari will also get some benefits from this delay. Technology will improve in the years to come. This will make batteries lighter and electric sports cars more fun to drive. This delay will also give the company time to find the right strategy for an exclusive EV. This will help in achieving sustainable market growth.

Ferrari's first EV is expected to cost more than half a million bucks when it hits the market. The first EV teaser campaign is expected to begin in October, with the full reveal coming next spring. The first EV will be available for sale in October 2026. In the spy pics, it doesn't look like Ferrari's existing products.

The electric Cavallino Rampante will have somewhat hatchback-like proportions, but it will be similar to the GTC4Lusso. It will have a small hood and a spacious cabin, with four passenger doors like the Purosangue, but closer to the ground.

There is no information about the company's second EV yet. Ferrari has not given any information about its form or price point. We think it will be cheaper than its $500,000 big brother. It could compete with the delayed Lamborghini EV, which has been previewed with the Lanzador concept. This means it could be a sporty two-door coupe that will cost $300,000. As long as it looks and sounds like a Ferrari, we'll consider it a success.
