The Volkswagen ID.2 is the next big step in the company's electric vehicle journey. This is the Volkswagen e-Up! Coming after the success and some disappointing sales of the Volkswagen ID.3. This new vehicle was already shown as two concepts named ID.2all and ID.GTI.
Last week it was seen hidden under a Polo-like camo. Volkswagen has not made any mistakes this time. Recently it was seen testing at altitude in the Alps, and the ID.2 is still very much camouflaged. The prototype also features a number of sensors, including a wheel-hub sensor and a sensor on the roof.
Taking a closer look at the camo on the body panels of this prototype, you'll see the outline of the charging flap on the right front fender. The ID.2 also differs from its compact-sized sibling in that it has brake rotors in place of drums for the rear wheels, and cross-drilled brake rotors for the front wheels.
A closer look at this particular ID.2 also reveals its hidden rear door handles. For the front doors, the usual external handles will suffice. Equipped with Continental tires, this camouflaged prototype also comes with something that no one can imagine on a small electric vehicle.

That thing is a tow bar. However, it is not clear whether the production model ID.2 will get this option. The Polo can get a tow bar, which in some versions of the 2025 Volkswagen Polo has the ability to pull with a brake of 1,200 kg or 2,646 lbs.
The size of the ID.2 is very close to the petrol-powered small car Polo, but it will not soon replace the Polo in the European Union and the United Kingdom. The reason for this is that the EV adoption rates in these places are not very good. There is also talk of the second facelift of the Mk6 Polo, although no such prototypes have been seen in the camera until June 2025.
The ID.2, along with the Cupra Raval and Skoda brand's Epiq, is built on the front-focused MEB entry platform. There are reports that it will also come with a faster performance model, which is being called ID.2 R. The ID.2 R is rumoured to have a three-motor setup, with one motor at the front and two hub motors for the rear wheels.
It has a capacity of 400 MW. Since Volkswagen didn't even offer a two-motor option for the ID.3, this rumor should be taken very carefully. However, for the crossover-sized Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, two-motor power seems to be fine.

Regarding the front axle motor of the ID.2all, Volkswagen claims that it is of 226 PS or 223 hp. If we talk about the performance model inspired by the ID.GTI, it should be clear that a more powerful electric drive unit will be suitable for this model. Pay attention to this, the most basic model of the ID.2 will cost less than 25,000 euros. At current exchange rates, Volkswagen Group's target starting price is $28,790.
